Second, there are two and only two psychologies in the world. They are Choice and Control. Now, we grant that there are many “psychopathies” and psychological disorders but hold as conviction that there are only two psychologies. Our functioning world is dominated by control. When we are able to enter our functioning life because we “choose” to do so versus being compelled or manipulated by some external influence or internal narrative then we notice shifts upward in our morale and enjoyment of life.

Experience
In a recent paper by Kristina Summat, St Xavier University, entitled, “Transformative learning theory and coaching” the necessary experience is described. Experience begins with a disorienting dilemma that provides “grist for critical reflection”. Coaching clients who participated in Sammut’s study “were in agreement that a catalyst must exist in order to produce transformation” and “confirmed that coachees come to coaching for a host of reasons – being stuck in their lives with a problem or issue, a life changing event, professional development, etc.” In other words, when someone decides to engage the services of a coach they have identified a felt need in some area of their personal or professional life. Can you identify a need like that?
