“When you become aware of the value of your friends and family members you are likely to treat them better” (Lyubomirsky, The How of Happy) and create a positive loop in which strong relationships provide you with reasons to be grateful which in turn deepens those relationships giving you more to be “grateful for”. This, in turn, naturally creates a more positive version of you and positive people are liked better by others (Lyubomirsky 2005). Plus, you are then more likely to gain and sustain more friends which in turn gives you more to be “grateful for”. It’s like the mirror image in the mirror. It just never ends.
